Dr. Nirjhar Maji , After completing schooling from St Xavier School Burdwan Dr. Maji did his MBBS from Kolkata Medical College College Street. In Medical college he developed his love and passion for Orthopaedics during his housestaffship under Professor Dr Dillip Pal and Dr Michael Heera. Then he went on to do his D. Orth when HOD was Prof. Dr. Subhashis Saha under Dr Aniruddha Sengupta and Dr Chinmoy Nath . He received Calcutta University Merit certificate for achieving first rank for D. Ortho examination , 2004. He then went to England for further training in Salisbury hospital under Mr Gurd Shergill and in Stockport Manchester under Mr R.K Dalal and Dr Todd. He completed his MRCS under Royal College Of Surgeons Edinburgh. After returning to India he joint as a Registrar Orthopaedics in Sishumangal Hospital Ramkrishna Mission Kolkata.: In 2007 , he joined West Bengal Health Service in Raghunathpur Purulia, where he worked in very difficult circumstances being only Orthopaedic surgeon in a radius of 50 Km. There he developed his skills of managing difficult orthopaedic problems in poor downtrodden population at grassroots level working there for almost 7 years. He gained immense popularity by his efficient management of patients and approachable good behaviour. After being transferred to Asansol District Hospital in 2013 he got the opportunity to do DNB trauma and orthopaedics in MIOT hospital, Chennai under Padmashree Prof. Dr PVA Mohandas . He worked under the guidance of Director of Trauma Dr. Ramprasad with whom he worked very closely trying to learn the art of management , discision making and operation of difficult trauma. He also worked closely with Dr Ram Chidambaram, upper limb surgeon and Dr Barry D’Rosario, knee replacement surgeon during this period. After returning to ASANSOL District Hospital in 2016 he started operating difficult trauma in the hospital and in his private practice fetching good results. He did the first Total knee replacement in Asansol on 24 th December, 2016. His knee and hip replacement patients are doing well.
